Most blessings start out the same way, just the endings change. Here are the words- so the next time you get a chance, you can say a blessing too!Baruch A-tah A-Do-Noy E-lo-hei-nu Melech HaOlam...
"Blessed are You, G-d, our L-rd, King of the Universe..."
Over kosher drinks, fish, meat, cheese, add: She'hakol Ni'hiya Bid'varo
"Who creates everything with His word."
Over fruit of the tree, add:Bo-rei P'ri Ha'eitz
"Who creates fruit of the tree."
Over fruit of the ground, add:Bo-rei P'ri Ha'adama
"Who creates fruit of the ground."
Over cake and cookies, add:Bo-rei Minei Mezonos
"Who creates various kind of food."
Over bread, add:Ha'motzi Lechem Min Ha'aretz
"Who brings forth sustenance from the earth."
If it is a blessing over a Mitzvah, we add:Asher Kidishanu B'Mitzvosav Vitzivanu...
"Who sanctified us with His Commandments, and commanded us ...."
Lehadlik Ner Chanukah "to light the Chanukah candles!"
Rabbi Riddle's Kwazy Kwestions:
- When old friends meet, they say the blessing, "Hatov V'HaMaitiv!" which thanks G-d for doing good. What do you say when meeting a friend for the first time?
- L'Chaim!
